The Russia-Belarus cooperation had been raising the alliance’s grave concerns in these latter days, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg told journalists.
In the interview with the German newspaper Welt am Sonntag, he said that NATO member states were ‘seriously concerned’ about the close interaction between Vladimir Putin and Alyaksandr Lukashenka over the recent months.
“We are vigilant, We are keeping a close eye on what is going on in Belarus. Of course, we are ready to protect each ally from any threat from Minsk and Moscow if necessary,” the top official stressed.
According to Jens Stoltenberg, the Belarusian issue will be discussed at the upcoming NATO summit which is to take place on June 14 in Brussels. The partnership agreement with Belarus, which was frozen for the most part, would be revised, he added.
