Belarusian opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya and Tatsyana Khomich, the sister of political prisoner Maryia Kalesnikava, met with Germany’s Green Party representatives who became the godparents of political prisoners.
Each of them held a poster with the name of his protegee.
?? MPs have been strongly supporting political prisoners of Belarus for months by taking godparenthood over them. You can also show your solidarity – send letters to the imprisoned Belarusians. There are currently 476 of them, and any support matters: https://t.co/fRHt2DRc8f. pic.twitter.com/Rr4j6p2FbB

In the wake of the 2020 rigged election in Belarus, thousands of people were arbitrarily detained during the nationwide peaceful protests against Lukashenka regime; many were jailed and recognised as political prisoners by the Belarusian human rights defenders. Dozens of MEPs and representatives of the national parliaments of Western countries took on godparenthood over a number of them.
