The US authorities called on their compatriots who are currently in Ukraine to make an informed decision about their further stay in the country.
“The security situation in Ukraine continues to be unpredictable due to the increased threat of Russian military action and can deteriorate with little notice. The US Embassy urged US citizens in Ukraine to consider departing now using commercial or other privately available transportation options,” the statement reads.
The Department of State has asked all US citizens in Ukraine to complete a special online form so that a better communication could be arranged, which is ‘especially important’ if Americans are going to remain in the country. If a US citizen who cannot afford to purchase a commercial ticket to the United States at the moment, they can alsoet repatriation loans, the embassy stressed.
A few days ago, the Department of State ordered the departure of all family members of US government employees at the US embassy in Kyiv. They also authorised the voluntary departure of some US government employees.
Since November 2021, Russia has been pulling in the troops to its border with Ukraine. Western and Ukrainian intelligence believe that the Kremlin is planning a large-scale invasion, and the territory of Belarus might be used for this purpose as well.
