The North Korean leader received an official award from Vladimir Putin, the Russian Embassy in the DPRK reports. However, Kim Jong-un was not present at Tuesday’s ceremony.

“In accordance with the Russian president’s decree, Chairman of the State Affairs Commission Kim Jong-un was presented with the anniversary medal ’75 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945′ for his major personal contribution to commemorating Soviet citizens who perished and were buried in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and for caring about preserving burial sites and memorials of Soviet warriors in the DPRK,” the news agency TASS quotes the embassy.

On May 5, Russian Ambassador Alexander Matsegora handed over the medal to the DPRK’s Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho at a ceremony in Pyongyang. Last week, Kim Jong-un reportedly appeared in public after a long absence that fueled the rumours about his illness or even death.

This year, Vladimir Putin decided to postpone the parade on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War due to the coronavirus situation.
