Blogger Siarhey Piatrukhin in Brest temporary detention facility

The blogger and the activist is currently in the temporary detention center in Brest, local human rights activist Uladzimir Vialichkin reports.

On May 6th, Siarhey Piatrukhin, a well-known opponent of the Brest battery plant construction and YouTube blogger (People’s Reporter) was going to meet with another blogger, Siarhey Tsikhanouski (Country for Life), who was also detained yesterday.

Later, blogger Aliaksandr Kabanau reported that Piatrukhin was detained by special forces near the village of Vostrau.

Today it was reported that he’s in the temporary detention facility in Brest. The lawyer of the Brest blogger says he wasn’t told the reason for the detention. It’s also unknown whether the protocol was drawn up, reports Radio Liberty. According to the law, he can be kept there without charges for up to three days.

In addition to Piatrukhin, on May 6th, four opponents of the battery plant construction were detained in Brest, as they went to the square to support the detained bloggers, Brest human rights activist Raman Kisliak reports. The activists were kept at the police station for three hours and then released. Video of the detention appeared on social networks today.

In addition to Piatrukhin and Tsikhanouski, it was reported about the detention of blogger Uladzimir Niaronski (“Slutsk for life”) and operator Artsiom Sokau. They are kept in the Mahiliou temporary detention facility, the group “Country for Life” in VK reports.

In late April 2020, Siarhey Piatrukhin faced pressure from the state. On April 28th, he was subjected to criminal investigation under Article 188 of the Criminal Code (“Defamation”).

In 2018, the blogger was already prosecuted under the same article for insulting and libeling police officers. In April 2019, he was found guilty and punished with a fine of 17,000 BYN.
